Shell Point Retirement Community

The Village Church has an active and committed ministry to the approximately 2,500 residents of Shell Point and the over 1,100 employees that care for and serve them.

Spiritual Care Services and Healthcare Chaplaincy

The Village Church established a program to provide healthcare chaplaincy services in the assisted living and skilled nursing facilities of Shell Point Retirement Community in 2002. Chaplains help residents and families nourish their spirituality and draw on spiritual resources to meet the challenges confronting them in their daily lives. Chaplains provide a compassionate, pastoral presence to those who are suffering, and to those who serve as caregivers. The chaplains reach across various faith traditions to provide interfaith spiritual care. They respect personal religious views and help residents obtain comfort and support within a familiar context and will provide referral to local pastors and religious leaders as desired. The Director of Spiritual Services maintains an office at the Larsen Health Center (skilled nursing facility) at Shell Point and oversees assistant chaplains at the assisted living facilities.
Counsel with a chaplain is a complimentary service for residents, caregivers, family members, and employees provided by The Village Church staff.
For more information, contact Garth Crundwell,  Director of Spiritual Services.

Shell Point Employees

Shell Point Retirement Community employees are an integral part of the community and their well-being is important to The Village Church and its members. The church seeks to provide both physical and spiritual resources for employees through its close relationship with Shell Point’s Director of Spiritual Services. Members of the church faithfully give to the Employee Benevolence Fund which provides assistance in times of financial crisis and in times of natural disaster (most recently tornadoes and Hurricanes Irma and Ian). While grants, applied for and administered through Shell Point Human Resources, help to provide physical relief, prayer and spiritual guidance are provided through consultation with the pastors as requested.  For more information contact The Village Church.

Vespers Services

Vesper Services at the assisted living facilities and at the Larsen Health Center (skilled nursing facility) are an extension of corporate worship for those unable to attend services at the church or who wish to gather with fellow residents in their own setting. Vesper (or late afternoon) services are informal gatherings and include music, prayer and a brief message, as well as a time of fellowship. The services are open to all.

Services and Inspiring Programming on SPTV

The Sunday Morning and Evening Worship Services are broadcast live on SPTV Channel 13, enabling residents to participate in the ministry even when they cannot attend the service. The sermons from both Sunday services are available online under Media. The Sunday morning service is rebroadcast on SPTV Channel 13 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. The Sunday evening service is rebroadcast on SPTV Channel 13 on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. In addition to worship services, Channel 13 programming includes Musical Reflections, Hour of Devotion (including dramatic reading of the New Testament), Searching the Psalms, rebroadcasts of concerts, and more.

Inspiring messages and devotionals are also presented over the weekend on SPTV Channel 8 and are available through Devotionals.  This is a great opportunity for a spiritual ‘pick-me-up’ or growth opportunity at your convenience.

Music Ministry

In addition to concerts open to the public, the ministry of music is shared throughout the year with residents at the assisted living facilities and Larsen Health Center. Hymn sings, casual performances and interactions with guest artists and seasonal caroling provide opportunities to engage in worship through song.  Our volunteer ukelele minstrels travel and minister throughout the year.

Grief Support

Grief over the loss of a loved one is a common issue in our community. There is emotional pain as well as confusion because of misinformation or myths about grief.  GriefShare is a program designed to help us examine the physical, emotional and spiritual effects of grief as we walk together on the challenging road to healing.
GriefShare incorporates professionally produced videos which discuss different aspects of the grief process.  These videos are followed by group discussion and the opportunity to share your own personal story.   For information about the current or upcoming group please contact the church office (239-454-2147).
